Welcome!

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to our brand new blog!

When it comes to the humanities, Hood College is pretty awesome! We offer majors, minors, and concentrations in

  • Art, Art History, & Archaeology
  • Communication Arts
  • English
  • Global Languages & Cultures
  • History
  • Music
  • Philosophy & Religious Studies
  • Theatre

We have a world-class faculty who have been trained not just by the best scholars in the country, but around the world (stay tuned for more about our faculty in a future post!)

We organize a colloquium of exciting events every year that is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities.  All of our colloquium events are free and open to the public, including lectures, panels, film screenings, and more. We also host concerts, art exhibits, theatre performances, poetry readings, and an annual reading group for members of the Frederick community.

Our students do internships and attend outside programs that connect them with a wider professional network. They are getting great jobs: with the federal government, in corporate America, and in schools. They work as analysts, writers, editors, curators, teachers, and lawyers. They work for – or have launched – non-profit organizations that do arts outreach and support people with disabilities.

And based on their Facebook posts, they’re not just employed, they are living full and meaningful lives. They volunteer in their community. That’s because we don’t just prepare students to succeed in a career – we help them build a life that is productive, thoughtful, and engaged with the world we all live in.

Please stay tuned as we build this site into a resource for everyone who is studying, living, and loving the humanities at Hood!
